Aging is weird and wonderful. It’s also a privilege denied to many. As we age, our bodies and minds go through some pretty random and often frustrating changes. While we all age differently, here are just a few awkward things that can happen to your body as you age.

Do you recognize any of these changes? What are some different ones you’ve noticed? Leave a comment and let the other readers know.

Unexplained Aches and Pains

Your back hurts, your knees hurt, your elbows hurt. Need I go on? Pain in places that were perfectly fine last week. Why is our body screaming at us all of a sudden? This is one of the things that happens to our bodies as we age. Everything just starts t hurt

Urinary Incontinence

As you age, your urinary muscles weaken, which may cause involuntary urine leakage. Many folks after 50 tend to need to use the restroom more often than ever. Sometimes, a simple sneeze will end up in a ‘whoops.’ A healthy diet, regular pelvic exercises, and strategically scheduled bathroom breaks can help control incontinence.

Grey Hair in Weird Places

And we’re not just talking about the hair on your head. Take a close look in the mirror, and you’ll most likely see a grey eyebrow hair, and maybe even an eyelash has suddenly turned white. Have you checked your ears and nose hairs lately, too? Let’s not forget about our private parts too! Oy, how can this be? Can we dye those?

Digestive Issues

As we age, the digestive system slows down, which may cause constipation or diarrhea. We can’t gorge on burgers, fries, and pop like we used to. We pay dearly for it within an hour or the next day. Avoiding fatty or spicy foods, staying hydrated, consuming adequate fiber, and sticking to a regular eating schedule can help eliminate digestive problems.

Random Anxiety Attacks For No Reason

Like, out of the blue, maybe while you’re standing in line at the grocery store. For no reason. Suddenly, poof, you’re freaking out and don’t know what to do. Or you could be out with friends having a nice dinner, and out of nowhere, there it is.

Decreased Libido

Many people experience a decrease in libido after 50, which can be challenging for both partners. For women, it’s slightly uncomfortable and can be painful as our petunias have dried up. Talking with your partner and your doctor can help address any concerns and explore treatment options.

Forgetfulness

You walk into a room and forget what you need. You put something away in a safe place and forget where that safe place is. You run into a friend from church and suddenly forget her name. Welcome to getting older.

Uncomfortable Dryness

Ladies, know what we’re talking about here. Our private parts feel like the Sahara desert. When did THAT happen? It hurts and is extremely uncomfortable (if not treated). We now need moisturizer. We’re that many years old.

Tolerance and Patience Are Gone

You basically hate everyone and everything except your dog. You no longer have patience for annoying or toxic people. You’ve lost your filter and have no qualms telling people how you feel. Dogs are life anyway.

Your Face is Falling

Your eyelids are drooping, your cheeks are caving in, there are ridiculous lines where your mouth and chin are, and all these spots have names. Who names these? Your face is falling, and it can’t get up. Well, if you’re up for plastic surgery, you can make anything happen.

Moles and Age Spots

These are popping up almost on a daily basis. Some of us get so many of them you can practically play connect the dots on their backs. While most of them are harmless, you should definitely get them checked by your doc just to be on the safe side.

Missing Hair

All that lush, beautiful full hair you used to have as a younger person is slowly starting to fall out and thin out. Pass the wine. This is sad. Where is our hair going? Do we have to buy wigs now? Dis tew much!

Burning Mouth Syndrome

Yup. This is a thing. A real thing and a real annoying thing. Burning mouth syndrome affects mostly older people (60+) and will come and go as it pleases. The only thing you can really do about it is moisturize your heart out, er, I mean your mouth.

Good luck with all these awkward and weird changes happening.
