Life can sometimes bring us down and make us feel like giving up. We experience setbacks, failures, and disappointments that can leave us feeling hopeless and lost. Life isn’t always rainbows and lollipops; when life hands us way too many lemons, it can feel overwhelming and helpless.
However, it’s important to know that these moments don’t have to define us. We must learn to pick ourselves up and continue to move forward. Here are ten things to remember when you feel like giving up.
This is a phase
We all go through phases in life. Some good, others not so good. You have to remember that this, too, shall pass. The old saying “what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger” holds a lot of weight and is very true! Remember, you’ve already survived 100% of what life has tossed your way.
You are stronger than you think
I know you feel weak and helpless, but you’re not. You’re way stronger than you think. Think of all the times you faced challenges and won. You’ll get through this, too. Have faith.
Every step counts, even tiny ones
Though it may seem like nothing is working, it is. Every tiny step in the right direction counts as a success. The trick is to keep on taking those steps, even though you feel they are small and insignificant. They aren’t. Don’t stop.
Remember your why
We all have a why. Why do we do the things we do? Why do we want to keep doing things? When you feel like giving up, remember your why and focus on that more.
Failure is a stepping stone
Failure can feel overwhelming and lead to low self-esteem and self-worth, but remember, each failure will bring you closer to victory. Even the greatest people in history failed at one time. Change the way you look at failure.
It’s so important to take care of yourself while you’re going through a difficult time. Too often, we neglect ourselves, and sadly, some even slip into depression. Don’t let this happen to you. Do small, loving things for yourself to nurture your heart and soul.
Take a break
Stop and take a step back from the chaos and overwhelm of your troubles. Make a movie date with a friend or go for a picnic. Sometimes, we just need to take a break and recharge.
It’s okay to ask for help
So many people fail to ask for help because they think it makes them look weak or like losers. Nothing is further from the truth. People love to help, but no one knows you need help if you don’t ask.
Celebrate small victories
Take some time to think about all the things you did that went well. If it helps, get a journal and write them out. You just may be surprised to see all your successes. Celebrate all your small victories. This is such good practice to help boost your self-confidence.
Don’t give up
Giving up is not an option. If you feel like giving up, go back to remember your why, why you started. Go back and think about all your achievements to date. Think about how amazing you will feel when you succeed. Don’t ever give up.
I know you feel like giving up and think life is helpless and hopeless right now, but it’s not. I’ve been where you are now and pushed through the obstacles and feelings of defeat. I know you can, too. If you need to talk to a professional, then do that. There are many free helplines on the internet. Remember, you’re not alone; people care and want to help. Take one more stop today and celebrate tonight before you go to bed. You can do this.
