Unless you’ve been living under a rock this decade, you will have heard of the keto diet plan and all the amazing benefits of it. This diet can help you lose weight, stabilize blood sugar/blood pressure, have more energy, and so much more. But before you jump in, it’s important to know a few things.

Today we’re going to look at 11 things you need to know before you start the keto diet, and with anything, make sure you check with your doctor first.

It Won’t Be Easy

Like any lifestyle change, completely overhauling your kitchen and your diet is a job not for the faint of heart. You are going to miss a lot of your favourite foods. You don’t think you will but trust me, you will. We’ve been addicted to all the wrong foods for so long it will be tough to break those addictions.

You Will Get Very Frustrated

Frustrated because you desperately want french fries, and you know zucchini fries just aren’t the same. It’s hard, and it’s emotionally exhausting. You will reach for something in your fridge that is no longer there, and you will get angry and question why you are doing this. A lot.

Dinners Out Aren’t Easy Either

While your friends are ordering burgers and fries, you’ll be ordering salmon and veggies. Yes, the latter is better for you but seriously. We all know that burgers and fries just hit differently. It will become increasingly difficult to go out to eat and get keto-friendly food while your friends are eating what they want.

It Can Be a Wee More Expensive

You aren’t baking with regular $2.99 flour anymore. You need to buy the stupid expensive almond or coconut flour. You’re not using regular sugar but the expensive sweetener stuff. It’s costly to go keto. No more frozen dinners for $3.99, either. Yes, it’s a wee bit more expensive but it pays off in the long run.

Figuring Out a Weekly Meal Plan

While there are plenty of meal planning guides on the internet, you may have a hard time finding the one that’s right for you. Not only that, it will take a while to find a good daily food and caloric intake that works for your body and metabolism. It’s a lot of testing in the beginning before you get it right and it can be frustrating.

Emotional Eaters Will Find it Challenging

If you’re always reaching for comfort food, going keto will be a challenge. Gone are the days of grabbing a spoon and a container of ice cream or eating a whole bag of cookies. This going to have to change or you won’t succeed. Find out what is causing you to be an emotional eater and work on fixing that first.

Make Sure You’re Fully Prepared

Clean out the kitchen, get rid of all bad food, and set a date on the calendar if you want to or have to but make sure you are fully prepared to start your keto journey; otherwise, you will be easily tempted and swayed.

Know Your Why

Remember why you’re doing this in the first place. Is it weight loss or to get your blood sugar under control? Is it for more energy and clarity or just for the health of it? You must focus on your why to stay on track with the keto diet. Remember, you’re worth it.

Prepare a List

You’re going to have to do this. Make a list of all keto-friendly foods you like and need to buy. This will also ensure you don’t buy anything that you shouldn’t or that isn’t keto-friendly. It’s better to be armed and ready so you don’t slip up.

You Can Still Eat Treats

All is not lost! You can most certainly still eat cookies and cakes and bread. As long as they are made with 100% keto ingredients, and I’ll be honest-they don’t taste like the real thing, but it’s better than nothing.

You Will Look and Feel Amazing
