If you’ve been thinking about getting a life coach lately, this blog is for you. I want to share with you 23 benefits of hiring a life coach (or a mindset coach), how to find one, and a few reasons why one might not be right for you.
I remember when I hired my first life coach. Ten years ago or so, it was a big thing, and now it’s grown into a billion-dollar industry and also the fastest-growing industry! It seems everyone wants to improve their lives, and lucky for them, there are tons of life coaches out there now.
But finding a good life coach isn’t always as easy as one would think. We’ll discuss that a little later on. Right now, I just want to share the benefits of hiring a life coach.
This might be a long post, so grab your favourite drink!

Why Would You Need to Hire a Life Coach?
So, before we discuss the benefits of hiring a life coach, why would you need one? That’s a valid question!
Here are a few reasons why someone might need a life coach.
- If you are recently divorced/separated/widowed/etc and starting over alone in life, you may need some guidance.
- Sudden job loss – if you need to look for a new job or maybe look into a career change.
- To help with low self-esteem issues/self-confidence/self-worth/ etc.
- You want to focus on personal growth but not sure where or how to start.
- If you find yourself alone for the first time and looking for a sense of purpose.
- and more!
Those are just a few reasons why you might need to hire a life coach. I also want to touch upon something else as well here.
Maybe you don’t need a life coach but a mindset coach. A mindset coach can help you with mindset stuff that keeps you stuck from moving forward in life and making changes.
Many of us have so many toxic limiting beliefs plugged into us from our childhood that we don’t have any confidence at all, and we feel we’re not good enough for anything or anyone. A mindset coach can help with that.
A life coach helps with more practical things. I hope that makes sense. I, for example, consider myself a Mindset Coach.
How to Find a Good Life Coach
I wish there were an easy way, but honestly, there isn’t. I know when I was looking, I had a really hard time finding the best coach for me, and then I ended up with someone I didn’t vibe with. After a few sessions, I just gave up.
I think the first step is to ask around. I bet some of your friends or colleagues already have a life coach. See if you can find some recommendations.
You may have to try a few before you find the best coach for you. Don’t give up. Remember why you are looking for one in the first place and refer to this article on the benefits of hiring a life coach when you feel like giving up.
Make sure you ask them the right questions so that you don’t end up with a coach who ‘doesn’t get you.’
Remember, you are worth the life you want and desire. You are number 1 now.
Anyway, let’s move on to the benefits of hiring a life coach now.
23 Benefits of Hiring a Life Coach
Here are 23 benefits of life coaching, in no particular order at all.
1 You’ll Gain Clarity
I put this at the top of the list for a reason. It’s pretty much the #1 reason why most people seek out a life coach, especially women over 50. So many of us don’t know what the next step in life is supposed to look like.
Most of us have been in relationships for most of our adult lives, in a career we most likely didn’t like, raising kids and pleasing everyone around us. Now it’s our turn to live our lives for US!
But we don’t know what that is or where to start.
2 Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
A good coach will gently give you the little nudge you need to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Many of us lack self-confidence and courage.
Your coach will help you with these issues, challenge you to do things you’ve never done before, and encourage you to believe in yourself more.
3 Help You Set Realistic Goals
Maybe you’ve never really had to set goals before, whether professional, personal, or career. A life coach can help you set realistic goals that you will be able to achieve with ease and that will not stress you out.
Not every woman over 50 is retired and ready to pack it in. Some of us are just really getting started in life and need some direction. Goal setting can be tricky and confusing, especially if you’ve never done it before.
4 Build Self Confidence
While a mindset coach can definitely help you here, a life coach can, too. Low self-confidence can stop us from trying or doing anything new or even wanting to. We just don’t believe in ourselves, so we stay in our comfort zone.
If you have the right coach, he/she can help you build your self-confidence so you can bravely step into the world.
5 Boost Your Self-Esteem
It’s so sad that many women over 50 have low self-esteem issues. Actually, many women in general do. We’ve been mentally and verbally abused for so long we feel like absolute failures.
A good coach will help you boost your low self-esteem so you believe in yourself more.
6 Build Self-Worth
While a mindset coach can definitely help with self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence, a life coach can most certainly do all that, too.
When you find the right life coach, she can help you with all areas of your life, especially with your belief system, so you can grow into the best version of YOU!
7 Help You Deal With Negative Thoughts
If you don’t have the proper mindset work in place to help you deal with limiting beliefs and negative thoughts, you won’t make it very far. Sorry, not sorry.
It’s important to have a good action plan in place to help you work through all those toxic thoughts that keep you stuck.
8 To Work on Specific Problems in Your Personal Life
This could be anything from a food addiction and wanting to lose weight to dealing with betrayal by a spouse or a friend. You simply may need to, or want to, speak to a professional life coach because your best friend won’t do it, and that’s ok.
Depending on the coach you find, a good life coach can help you deal with problems in your personal life.
9 Get to the Root of Why You’re Stuck
Maybe you have a really good plan of action or a specific goal you want to achieve, but you feel frozen in fear, and you just can’t move forward. Don’t feel bad. That happens to a lot of us!
You’re not alone.
A good coach will get to the root of the problem and help you deal with and heal from it so you can move forward in your life and achieve your goals.
10 Encourage You to Put Yourself First
We don’t know how to do that. We never have. Everyone else has always been first, and here we are, alone for the first time, starting over and forgetting that it’s all about the US now.
We’re number 1.
But we need someone to help us with that. And girl, trust me on something. Once you realize you are #1, you become unstoppable.
Need help trying to navigate life and all its challenges? Are you looking for the right tools to guide you and help you take the steps to making the changes you desperately need to make, to live the life you deserve? I got ya covered. Click here for more info!
11 Talk to Someone With a Different Perspective
While our friends and family have good intentions, they also don’t want us to fail or hurt ourselves so they will generally play it safe with us and only offer up ‘safe ideas’ for change.
That won’t help you at all in your personal development.
You need someone who will see things very differently and give you new, fresh ideas to help you reach your full potential!
12 Work on Communication Skills
Unfortunately, we aren’t born with communication skills, and we learn them as we grow. Oftentimes, they suck. There I said it.
I was raised in a household where there was an awful lot of yelling, physical abuse, and no love. Can you imagine what my communication skills used to be like? Oy! What a nightmare.
Learning new skills in communication will help you grow leaps and bounds.
13 Help You Build Strong Relationships
It could be that you lost a relationship with a family member or a friend or that you simply don’t have great relationships with others for whatever reason. Relationships are hard.
Finding the right coach will help you build strong relationships with those who matter and with whom you want to rebuild a bond.
14 Keep You On Track
Let’s face it, if we don’t have someone behind us cheering us on, we tend to get lazy and fall off track. “We’ll do it tomorrow,” and then tomorrow never comes.
Your life coach will help you stay on track, and depending on how many coaching sessions you have per month, she may check in with you periodically to make sure you are still on track.
This is a good thing!
15 Teach You How to Handle and Manage Stress
We’re not all that great at managing stress; let’s be honest here. Are you guilty of freaking out and losing your temper or your marbles when you’re under stress? I used to be too.
A really skilled life coach will show you different ways to handle stress and your emotions during stressful times.
16 Help You Manage Time/Be More Organized
I don’t know about you, but I’m probably the least organized person on the planet. I have a habit of throwing spaghetti on the wall and hope some of it sticks. I know, I know, bad Iva.
It’s a little secret: I’m actually meeting with my business coach tomorrow to help me get more organized. A life coach can help you with that, too!
17 Have an Accountability Buddy
Who doesn’t want an accountability buddy?? I sure as heck do. If you have a good friend who is that for you, kudos to you, but if you don’t, a life coach makes a perfect one.
Remember, it’s easy to fall off track, especially if no one is taking count or keeping an eye on us. An accountability buddy will make sure you stay on course!
18 Someone Trustworthy to Talk to
While it’s great to have a best friend or a go-to person for most of your problems, you can’t talk to these people about all aspects of your life. Sometimes you need someone who can completely trust 100% with all the dirty details and deep hidden issues.
The best life coach will put you at ease and make you feel comfortable so you can share all the dark things too.
19 Help You Balance Your Life
Are you a workaholic? Maybe you go out too much or prefer to spend your free time alone. There is nothing wrong with any of that—well, maybe the workaholic one—but a good life coach will help you live a more balanced life and help you prioritize things.
It’s not okay to work all the time, just as it’s not okay to go out and party all the time. Balance is key.
20 Discover Your True Potential
Oh, yay!!! Can you just imagine what it feels like to know your purpose, know your worth, have the confidence to live it and understand it, and then start working towards that life?
Hallelujah.
True happiness comes from within, and when we discover our true potential, happiness shines through our faces.
21 Guidance With the Decision-Making Process
So I’m a Libra, and I hate making decisions. I can safely say I really suck at them. I am always looking to other bloggers or professionals for help in making business decisions.
If you’re anything like me, please ask for help. That’s what your coach is there for.
Your life coach can help you make decisions about life or business goals.
22 Help You Dump Bad Habits
Maybe you smoke, eat too much sugar, or are the world’s greatest procrastinator. Whatever your bad habits, your life coach can help you dump them.
And if she doesn’t have the perfect solutions for you, she’ll find them. Remember one thing, your coach wants you to succeed in every area of your life. That’s what they are there for. To help you.
23 Hire an Online Life Coach
If you happen to hire an online life coach, the benefits are pretty awesome. You can do coaching in your pajamas, without leaving the house, and even without having to do it in video.
The best thing about hiring an online life coach is that you can get help from the comfort of your own home. Who doesn’t love that?
Is a Life Coach Right For Me?
After all this, maybe a life coach isn’t what you need. If you’ve been thinking of starting your own business, you may need a professional coach (or a career coach).
Most successful people hire coaches.
Or maybe you need a professional to help with your demons from the past, hurt or anger issues from the past, or to help you battle all your limiting beliefs. This could be in the form of a therapist as opposed to a life coach.
Another reason a life coach might not be right for you is that some people really do have a hard time talking to strangers about their personal lives and problems. Remember, these people are trained to help you, and they want to help you.
They truly do!
I think the last reason why a life coach may not be right for you is that you just aren’t ready to get help, and that’s ok too. When you’re ready, someone will be there to help you.
I promise.
Final Thoughts on the Benefits of Hiring a Life Coach
I hope this helped you even just a wee bit. You can see that the benefits of hiring a life coach far outweigh why you shouldn’t.
Whatever your personal needs or wherever life takes you, remember that hiring a life coach doesn’t mean you’re a failure or dumb. Only successful, proactive, and happy people hire life coaches!
xo iva xo
It’s nice that you mentioned how a good coach would give you the little nudge you need to help you get out of your comfort zone and try new things. I feel like I am missing quite a lot in life, however, I do not know how to get started with those things. So with that in mind, I think I should book a life coach consultation.
