You’ve heard it before, you are what you eat. But you are also every toxin that your body absorbs from the environment (pollution, smoke, exhaust, etc.) and your mind as well. So many people don’t realize just how sensitive our bodies truly are. They absorb everything!

Increase Fiber Intake

Foods that are high in fiber are brown rice and organically grown fresh fruits and vegetables. These include beets, cabbage, radishes, artichokes, chlorella, broccoli, spirulina, and seaweed. These are all excellent detoxifying foods.

Include More Herbs

To effectively cleanse your liver, try taking herbs such as dandelion root, milk thistle, and burdock. Drinking green tea also helps with this process.

Take Vitamin C Daily

This vitamin helps to produce glutathione in the body. This is a liver compound that drives away unwanted toxins. Many bodybuilders use Vitamin C in high doses before a competition to rid of extra pounds and flush the body.

Drink Plenty of Water

Whether you are detoxifying or not, you should always do this step: Drink plenty of water every day. While they say you should drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, listen to your body. It will indicate when it’s dehydrated and needs water. You may want to add cucumber, mint leaves, thyme or other natural flavors to help with detoxification.

Deep Breathing Exercises

To allow oxygen to circulate in your body more effectively, do daily deep breathing exercises. While this may sound useless, it’s not. When we take a few minutes to focus on our breath, we allow for fresh oxygen to fill our lungs and expel toxic air. It also is a fantastic way to declutter the toxicity in our minds too!

Think Positive

Too often, our minds are a chaotic, jumbled-up mess of stress, work, negative thoughts, and toxic emotions. We hold on to all this because this is what defines us. Take some time to practice switching off negative thoughts and replacing them with positive thoughts, and watch how your day and life change.

Try Hydrotherapy

This is done by taking a very hot shower for 5 minutes. Allow the water to run down your back. Follow this by standing under cold water for 30 seconds. Do this three times and then hop into bed for 30 minutes. You’ve heard the saying “wash away your troubles”; well, it works.

Have a Sauna

Saunas are great for detoxifying. Sweating will allow the body to eliminate waste through your perspiration. If you don’t have one, many gyms are spas have saunas you can rent for an hour. Check your local listings to find one close to you.

Dry-brush Your Skin

Dry-brush your skin, use detoxifying patches, or detox foot spas or baths. These will remove toxins from your pores. You can usually find these types of brushes at natural products stores or at your local pharmacy. Careful though, you may become addicted to this!

The most important way to detox your body is to exercise. Yoga and jump roping are two of the best detoxifying exercises. For one hour every day, you should take the time to exercise consistently. There are many exercises that are solely for detox purposes, so these are the best to do during your detox program.
