I’m gonna have to say, October has been my best month so far in online earnings since I started this blogging journey 4 years ago. I’ve recently just added two more neat things to my multiple streams of income and I gotta tell ya, they’re doing ok!
I also have to say, in my defense, for the first 3 years I had no clue what I was doing. This last year, I kicked everything into high gear and really buckled down on learning a few things like:
- how to make money online
- how to drive traffic to my blog
- understanding Pinterest and Google Analytics
- learning Affiliate marketing
- how to learn SEO
- and a million other things every blogger needs to know
Anyone who is in the blogging world and trying to make money from home knows there’s a poop ton of work to do before you actually start seeing a return on your investment, aka, hard work. You are constantly working, editing, updating, learning and testing.
You name it, we do it. We do whatever it takes to make money online from our blogs or virtual businesses.

My journey to making money online
This is gonna be a long one so grab a drink and settle in while I tell you a story of how I started making money online and why I so desperately wanted to.
Picture it, Sudbury, Ontario, January 2015, the temperature had plummeted to -50C.
I was so done with winter. At the time I had a job as a hairstylist, working to build someone else’s dream. I was also so done with that too.
I had been a hairstylist for 25 years and in and out of toxic relationships for just as long. I had come to a point in my life where something had to change and that something was me.
So I did.
The freelance writing world was calling my name
Back in 2014, I discovered you could make money online being a freelance writer. This was amazing to me. I’m a pretty good writer. Why not look into this a bit more Iva, I asked myself.
So I did.
I started writing for free as a guest poster and then got a little bolder and started asking for paid writing jobs. One site owner said yes and hired me on full time as a ghost writer. That was 2015.
Oh hell-O brand new world!!
By July of 2015 I had finally retired from my hairstyling job and became a full time freelance writer, albeit a ghost writer, but nonetheless. Someone was paying me to write.
While doing this, I added a few more skills to my online job repertoire. I became a VA and was doing Facebook page scheduling and image creating. I had picked up another client and was making more money online then I was at my hairstyling job.
Colour me happy.
My one big goal in life
To be honest, there were two goals. One was to leave Canada and head for warmer climates in Central America and the other goal was to help the less fortunate in a third world country.
I had finally realized my dream of creating a life I love, the freelance writing life, and was now officially able to work anywhere in the world I wanted to.
Fast forward to my online business today
I’m going to spare you all the minute details of what transpired between 2015 and now but I’ll tell you this much:
- in December 2017 I resigned from my online clients and supported myself with online earnings from Facebook and Shared Articles
- that all crashed in February of 2018 and my son had to help support me throughout the year (God bless him)
- I spent all of 2018 taking in everything I could to learn how to grow my online business and start making money from my blog
- I worked my butt off editing old blog posts and writing new ones
…and here we are today finally, almost 2 years later and I’m making a decent online income from my site. The site I’m referring to is this one Amazing Me Movement.
This is a self help site where I get to share my trials and tribulations and help others live the life they deserve. I share my stories of trauma and defeat and how I rose above all the noise, damage and clutter to become the strong and happy person I am today.
Now because this site is strictly a personal development site I needed another site to help other bloggers and online entrepreneurs make money online, drive traffic to their site, chase and catch their dreams and live boldly.
Hence, Women Blazing Trails.
Here I can share stories of online success and help you to achieve success as well. Oh, and share income reports and how to have multiple streams of income because let’s face it, no one wants to do all this work for free, amirite?
How I found multiple streams of income
I’m gonna be honest right now, it wasn’t easy and it took an awful lot of hard work. I’m also nowhere near where I’d like to be with my monthly online income but I’m getting there.
I donate a portion of my income to different charities each month so it’s important to me to get my income up higher. The more I make, the more I can help. I mostly help with orphanages and animal shelters but often buy food for people on the street or give them money.
I read a ton of articles about multiple streams of income and realized that even though it was going to require some work, it certainly wasn’t impossible.
You also have to keep an open mind and try and test things. I tested Patreon, for example, and finally cancelled that after about 6 months. It works for many but not all.
I also delved a wee bit into online courses but put that one on hold as well. Though many make a poop ton of money with digital products (online courses) this route isn’t quite for me yet but I may revisit it in the future.
Use your imagination when coming up with ideas for multiple streams of income
You have to remember what works for some, may not work for you. Being in the Personal Development niche, it’s really hard to find decent affiliate products that will bring in decent passive income.
If you see my online earnings below, I barely make anything with Amazon but it does bring in some so I’ll keep using it. I took Tracie Fobes Affiliate Marketing Course and it has helped quite a bit but to be honest, I’ve put affiliate marketing on the back burner for now.
Don’t do that though, put it on the back burner, if you have a great niche. Don’t be like Iva here.
Don’t discount the little things. Everything all adds up at the end of the month. Look at my Ko-fi earnings (listed below) ! Not too shabby since I just signed up a couple of months ago.
Getting traffic to your blog should be your main concern
There’s no point in having multiple streams of income if you aren’t driving traffic to your blog. Pinterest is my jam though I’ll be honest, SEO should be your main focus for driving traffic and I’m working on that now too.
I started Pinterest in January 2018 with no clue, no boards, no pins and no followers. I started reading blogs and bought an eBook to help me learn this beast.
After two months of working my butt off and applying everything I learned, this is what happened.
and then this
And here we are almost two years later, I’m almost at 100K followers at the time of me writing this blog post and this is what the stats look like now:
So, again, you can see, Pinterest works if you work it properly! As of today, my monthly page views in Google are around 315K but I’m working to get that higher and higher!
I recently purchased Mike Pearson’s Stupid Simple SEO course and I gotta say, it’s a pretty thorough and decent course. I work at it when I have time and only a wee way through it but I’ve learned SO much already.
This course only opens up a few times a year so get on the mailing list!
This course is not cheap though. If that’s not quite in your budget yet, you might want to check out Neil Patel as he offers an awful lot of free stuff that’s super valuable.
I also purchased Debbie Gartner’s Easy On-Page SEO eBook. It’s full of valuable information and super easy to follow and understand.
You should really take the time to learn SEO. Though I do rely on Pinterest right now for 90% of my traffic I really shouldn’t. At any given moment Pinterest can suspend my account for whatever reason and then I’d be doomed.
My 7 multiple streams of income
So let’s get right to this shall we? I currently have 7 multiple streams of income and though I’m not a millionaire with them like some people are, I’d say I’m doing pretty darned good.
Ads on my website
The first one and main blogging income source is ads. I know you just cringed and I know ads aren’t for everyone but they sure are a great way to make money online with your blog.
I started out in the beginning like everyone else and used Google Adsense. I made around $300 a month from them until my traffic increased and was able to apply to another ad agency.
Ezoic is my agency of choice and I love them to the moon and back. My online earnings instantly tripled with them. Hell-O!! This February I decided to give Mediavine a try as everyone ranted and raved about them.
It was a disaster. I lost so much money with them. My RPM never got higher than $10. After 4 months I went back to Ezoic and my earnings doubled again. Take a look at that number! Not too shabby if I say so myself!
I’m not bashing Mediavine as some of my blogging friends make a killing with them, they just didn’t work for me. This is another case of trial and test. It took me 6 tries to get approved to Mediavine but I persisted because I wanted to test them out.
I also tried out Medianet. Another disaster. Their customer service was horrible and the earnings were pathetic.
On a side note, I’m also an affiliate for Ezoic so right now I make about $30 a month with them. It’s such a great incentive to join! You make more money when you get people to sign up with your link.
Their business grows and makes more money, and so do you!
What a win win!!
Google ads- $108
Though I do use Ezoic, they partner with other agencies so they aren’t the only ones using ad space on your money making blog!. I still make a little passive income from Google Adsense. Last month I made a little over $100 but for the month of November I’m on track to make almost $500 extra in ad earnings.
I’m also on track to make around $2500 this month with Ezoic if traffic stays high and all things I’ve learned so far in SEO work for me!
Colour me happy again!
eBook sales- $32
Can you write? Do you have something to share with people? A skill people want to learn perhaps? Can you write about anything that can help people or solve a problem?
You can whip up a little guide for something and sell it for as much as you want. $1 to whatever! You pick the price!
I wrote a few eBooks, mostly personal development eBooks, self help eBooks and personal growth eBooks. You can see all my eBooks here and my two new courses
Buy me a coffee please!
I just added this and am so glad I did! Ko-fi is a fun and easy way to make some decent passive income. I never thought about adding it as a multiple stream of income before but some girls were chatting about it in a group I belong to so I had to test it out.
Test was successful. I’m a gold member (which is really only $5 a month I think) so you can add fun perks and have more control over your Ko-fi page.
Go have a peek at it. Remember, it might not be for everyone but it sure works for me.
Facebook Instant Articles
Instant Articles- $35
While this income stream doesn’t work for everyone, it does bring me in a little money each money. However, with that said, the payout threshold is $100 and sometimes it takes me 4 months to get there.
Nonetheless, I do make some money here. Back in January of 2018 (or so) I was making up to $800 a month and then Facebook changed their algorithms and we all got screwed. No surprise.
I’m still happy to make something from them though. I do this by sharing blogs on my Facebook page.
I do have a pretty successful page though with over 600K fans so as I said before, it’s not for everyone but it may be for you.
Ok I suck at affiliate marketing. Or it could just be my niche. Whatever the case, I still make a wee bit of money here. I think in September I made almost $20. Yay Iva.
I’m still working through Tracie Fobes’ Affiliate Marketing Course when I have time. She really details everything out nicely and it’s easy to understand and follow.
Remember every little bit adds up, even if it’s only $10 in the beginning.
Medium earnings- $60
I’ve been writing on Medium for almost two years now. I love Medium because it’s totally a no holds barred kind of platform where you can write what you want, when you want and get paid for it (I think you need to be a paid member though but I could be wrong).
When I first started I was making around $200-300 a month but I really don’t have time to write on Medium much these days so all the stories I have there now still bring me in a little passive income. I’ll take it!
I know a girl on there who makes 5 figures a month writing for them but that’s ALL she does is write for Medium. There is definitely money to be made there if you take the time to write!
Angel Card Readings
I didn’t add this on my list (or count is as #8) because I didn’t do any readings in the month of October. I couldn’t promote them like I usually do because I was moving from Guatemala to Mexico and knew I wouldn’t have time to do any readings but this is another one of my multiple streams of income.
When I take time to do some shameless self promotion I can usually book a few Angel Card Readings a month which will add a few hundred dollars to my multiple streams of income.
If you are interested in learning more about my Angel Card readings you can click here!
I really enjoy doing readings and can’t wait to get back into it. Now that I’m settled in my new home I’ll be promoting them again more!
Summary of my multiple streams of income
eBook sales $32
Google Adsense $108
Facebook Instant Articles – $35 ($100 payout threshold here)
Amazon Affiliates- $13
Add all that up and you got $2433. Can you colour me happy again?
The tools I used to help me make money online
As a blogger you already know sometimes you gotta pay to play. We try to get by with free things but that only takes you so far. You have to invest in your blog like your life depends on it.
Well, at least I do.
Here are my favourite things in the whole wide world that help me make money online with my blog:
MailerLite – I used to be with Aweber and though they are also a good email provider, I found MailerLite was just easier to use and produced way better results for me.
Bigscoots You have to host your site somewhere right? I was using Siteground and though they are very good, my traffic and site was increasing rapidly and I needed something that could handle the load. Bigscoots does that for me!
Tailwind– I absolutely couldn’t have grown my traffic like I did without Tailwind. In my opinion, they are the bomb! The scheduler is super easy to use and saves me a poop ton of time so I can focus on other things.
Picmonkey I create all my images and pins in Picmonkey. Another tool that is silly easy to use. I prefer the paid version and it just has so many more options available.
More multiple streams of income ideas
Put your thinking cap on! What do you love to do that you could probably make a little bit of income on? Are you a writer? A painter? Great at creating courses?
Dig deep and do some more sniffing around for multiple streams of income ideas. There are probably a million more out there! People create and sell planners, printables, t-shirts on Amazon, you name it, there’s money to be made online.
A quick Google search can help you find what people are looking for. This is where I also find many of my keywords for blog ideas too. Don’t discount Google search. It’s amazing.
Don’t discount anything really. Just about everything goes on the world wide web.
Do you have multiple income streams ideas?
What are some income streams that you use that I haven’t thought of or shared with you here? What works for you? Share with the other readers below.
