I find that as we get older and our clocks seemingly tick faster, the race is on to try to live life to its fullest. We don’t want to live with regrets, amirite? I’m going to share 10 simple ways on how to enjoy life everyday so you can enjoy life, right until the day you die!
I’ve noticed that as I age, many of my friends basically feel the same way I do about life and aging. I think after 50, we stop caring about so many things and really just try to look for and enjoy the simple things in life.
And by simple I mean things like:
- the sunrise
- waking up
- the smell of coffee
- having breath in your body
- being able to see and hear another day…
Things like that.
So while those are all small things to be grateful for that doesn’t necessarily guarantee that we are going to live life to its fullest. Yes gratitude makes life happier, but let’s face it, life isn’t always rainbows and lollipops, no matter how grateful you are.
That’s just fact.
How do you enjoy life?
For me, I find pleasure in simple little things that I will share in a bit but how do you enjoy life?
I think it’s important to take some time every single day and do at least one thing that brings you great pleasure and joy. I hope you’re doing that.
To me it seems like when someone close to you dies, that happens to be your age or younger, is when we get this rude wake up call to start enjoying life more. “Life is short! Go and live it!”
I mean how many times have you heard that? Well, it’s so true. Here I am already at 60 years old and I keep thinking, where the heck did the time go?
I also keep wondering, did I do everything I wanted to and if not, is there still time? We don’t want to run out of time but we also don’t know when our time will run out.
Life is funny that way.

1 Call a friend- In this world of text messaging as the main way of communication, it sure can be nice to actually hear a voice on the phone OR better yet, a facetime call! Sometimes, a simple phone/facetime call can brighten up your day (or the other person’s) so much!!
2 Eat the cake- Or the donut, or the gluten free dessert or whatever. So many people are avoiding this and not eating that and I totally understand for health reasons why we refrain but it’s ok to let loose every once and a while and have a piece of your favourite dessert in the whole wide world!
3 Take a road trip alone – Get in your car or book a train/bus/plane ticket by yourself and explore a new city, country, village, whatever. The world is big and beautiful and there’s so much to see, so little time. Just go.
4 Pamper yourself daily – Yes! I said daily. Why is it so wrong to treat ourselves every day? Take a nap, have a bubble bath, pick yourself some fresh flowers, give yourself a mini mani/pedi, whatever!! Take some time to make YOU feel special.
5 Pet a puppy/kitten – Not your own, though please do, but go visit the animal shelter once a week or whenever and go play with a shelter animal! That will bring you so much joy, you can’t even imagine. Sign up to be a volunteer! Thank me later!
6 Choose peace over being right – When you argue with a fool, you prove there are 2. Learn how to take a deep breath and walk away from drama, fights, toxic people. Just walk away-choose peace instead. You’ll be the bigger, and happier, person for it.
7 Declutter your house/mind – Did you know that clutter stops us from having joy and peace and happiness and freedom in our lives? Yup, sure does. Clutter is toxic energy. All of it. Get rid of it. That includes people too.
8 Do more of what you love – Do you love to paint, sing, dance, hike, knit, etc? Do more of that. Stop saying “I have no time or I’ll do it tomorrow”. Tomorrow never comes. Do it today and make a plan to do it every day, even for 15 minutes!
9 Try one scary thing – That one scary thing you’ve always wanted to do but have always been too afraid to do it. That scary thing. Ziplining? Skydiving? Paragliding? You won’t believe how absolutely amazing you’ll feel after you’ve finally done it.
10 Smile more often – Not in a creepy way but in a “life is good and I’m content” kinda way. Smile at strangers. Strike up a conversation. Show your pearly whites. The world needs more kindness and more smiley people.
Live each day to the fullest
I honestly feel life is so short and you just never know when your time is up. I hate to think people waste each day complaining about stupid and ridiculous stuff and arguing with friends and family all the time.
What a time suck that is!
Your time is precious and you get to choose how you spend it. Please choose wisely!!
So many people forget that they are in total control of their lives and what they allow into their lives. You have the power to say no or yes. NO to things and people you don’t want in your life and YES to the things that bring your heart joy.
It’s up to you. No one else. It’s up to you to live each day to the fullest. No one can do that for you either. If your life is poopy it’s up to you to do things to change it and make it better.
No one else can do that for you either. This is your one and only precious life. Try and live it to the fullest.
