So you’ve been blogging for awhile. You think your site is awesome and it probably is!! But there’s nothing but crickets. What gives? I’m gonna share one secret trick with you to help you increase website traffic fast. And free too!
Oh man who doesn’t love that eff word?
I remember when I started blogging back in 2014 or so, I had no clue what I was doing. Nary a one. You can read more about that here. It’s quite the story. Anyway we don’t need to talk about that right now.
When I finally got the hang of the whole blogging world thingamabob, I realized that I needed to work on getting traffic to my website. And I did.
To be honest, it all spiraled crazily out of control once I started doing this one secret thing.
Driving traffic to your site via Pinterest
Before I dive deep into this blog ( I probably should have told you first to grab your favourite drink cause this might be a long one) I want you to know that we are going to be talking about Pinterest here but wait!!!
Don’t run away yet!!
For some reason, every eBook I’ve purchased and every blog I’ve ever read about driving traffic to your site through Pinterest never mentions this one thing and I just don’t get it. It’s like winning the Pinterest lottery and no one talks about it!
So I’m gonna go out on a limb here and share my secret with you. You’re so going to love this.
(this post contains affiliate links so if you make a purchase I make a small commission-affiliate disclosure)
Google versus Pinterest
Also before we get into this I do want to make note of one very important thing. While getting traffic to your website through Pinterest is amazeballs, focusing on organic traffic is pretty important too. You should never rely on something you have no control over.
Pinterest can shut down your account on a whim. I know it sucks but they have that power. They recently suspended my account and to say I was freaking the eff out is an understatement. 80% of my website traffic comes from Pinterest so to get suspended was a huge blow to me.
After a few emails they replied with “Oops! My bad. We made a mistake and here’s your account back!” HUGE sigh of relief but I have to tell you, many who have had their Pinterest account suspended literally have to jump through hoops to get it back. I hope that never happens to you.
Facebook can shut down your account too for no reason. Google on the other hand, well you gotta really piss them off before they do that.
So while Pinterest is a fantastic way to increase traffic fast to your website, keep in mind it’s not the only thing you should be working on.
I have been working steadily on SEO and driving more traffic to my website that way but you should know that organic traffic is a long slow burn. It can take months, up to 12 months, for a blog to rank.
Or you could hit the Google jackpot like I did last month when this new post hit the top spot. ( I even beat out Forbes…damn!!)
Colour me ridiculously happy!!!! And this article hit that spot organically. I have to mention this one eBook I recently purchased and devoured in two seconds (ok maybe not quite that fast) that really helped me write better posts and help me to rank in Google.
I used the tips in this book to help me update old blog posts on my other site, Amazing Me Movement, and some of them are moving up, slow but sure, in the Google rankings. Yay!!!.
I also purchased this course Stupid Simple SEO to help me understand and work SEO. It’s a very thorough course and has also helped tremendously.
Though that course was a little on the expensive side (the eBook is priced right!!) it was definitely worth every penny.
I promise. It is. Sometimes you gotta pay to play but make sure you are spending your money on eBooks and courses that many other successful bloggers recommend or you’re wasting your time and money.
Ok let’s get back to business…
A small look at how traffic increased to my website
I’m going to use my both my Pinterest accounts to show you examples, the one for this site and the one for Amazing Me Movement.
Before I started with Pinterest, (and just so you know, using Pinterest isn’t the secret trick, sit tight and see) I had no idea you could even use Pinterest to drive traffic to your website. Totally clueless.
So I read some blogs, bought a couple of Pinterest eBooks and away I went. This is what happened in my first month (this is from my other site).
So you can see I started in December of 2017 with crickets and by January 26th 2018 I was reaching 180K monthly views on Pinterest. Pretty decent I’d say, yes?
Now because I’m a bit of a dodo brain, or used to be I should say, I didn’t have Google Analytics installed until May of 2018 ( make sure you have it installed please, don’t be like Iva). So, unfortunately, there’s nothing to show traffic wise between December 2017-January 2018 so you can see how the above graph translates in Google (hey, at least I’m honest) BUT when I finally clued in, this is what my month looked like for May 2018.
Ya. Like that. You can’t make this sh*t up. If you take a close look, that’s page views for only 4 days too. All thanx to this one secret trick!
Now here are the stats from the new site. I have to admit though, I haven’t been working my butt off with the new site like I did with the other one but I’m still pretty pleased with the results only one month in.
As you can see, I really started working on this site on Feb 11th of this year and by Feb 29th I already had almost 1700 page views. 19 days. Not even one full month.
Again, I’d say that’s pretty damn good. I mean, I ain’t no Neil Patel but let’s get real for a minute, who has his ad budget anyway? 😛
How to increase website traffic fast (and free!)-my secret trick
Are you ready to learn the one secret trick that no one is talking about to increase website traffic fast and free?? Drum roll please……badabadabadabada
I want you to pop on over to my Pinterest account and have a look at some of my boards. This is my AMM account. This website (and the sister Facebook page) is a self help website. I write about everything from relationships, to narcissists, to loving yourself again. You get the idea.
As you can see from my boards, I post a lot of inspirational quotes posters. I have several boards with quotes posters.
Because people friggin love quotes posters. Period. I experimented with this a little simply because no one was talking about it and I said to myself “self, why don’t we share the quotes posters that we make for our Facebook page over on Pinterest”?.
Ah. Why not? Let’s try it.
So I did it. And my page views, my Pinterest account, AND my ad earnings exploded!!! Keep in mind with Pinterest it does take a wee bit of time for engagement but not nearly as long as Google.
If you’re using Facebook for quotes and blogs, keep in mind they don’t have the shelf life of Twinkies.
It’s not like that with Pinterest. Your stuff gets pinned over and over again and it’s seen for like forever (ok slight exaggeration but you get what I mean).
So I implemented this little trick on my new Pinterest account as well. Here’s a little screenshot of what happened for the month of February (when I really got serious with this site).
Now this account is still relatively new so I don’t have many boards but I’m trying to do equal parts of blog boards and quotes boards.
Increasing website traffic for free isn’t rocket science
And don’t get me wrong. There are certainly many other factors that come into play here but increasing website traffic for free doesn’t have to be impossible either.
Site speed is important, SEO is mandatory, blog format is equally important, offering tremendous value to your reader and of course, promoting (which also can be done for free) and networking.
I spent the better part of this year testing and playing with Pinterest for getting traffic to my site.
I use Tailwind to schedule all my posts over on AMM and have only recently started using it for this site. Tailwind is amazing and easy to use. You don’t have to use it but it’s a great scheduler and you can join tribes in there so other like minded bloggers can share your stuff too.
Please remember collaboration is so important.
Learning is also very important. Try to find one or 3 really smart blogging peeps and follow them. I have found a couple on Facebook and these guys on YouTube. Even though I am a huge Neil Patel fan, these guys from The Income School are pretty awesome too!
Using quotes to drive traffic to my site
So how I use the quotes posters is I link them to a relevant blog OR sometimes to an eBook I have for sale (or my Angel Card readings). Some pins simply just go to my site and once I get them there they usually hang around and have a look to see what it’s all about.
So you can link your quotes pins to whatever you want more eyes on and traffic to. It’s up to you really. Got a product you want to sell? Link your quote to that. Is your site new? Link your quote to that.
It’s a win win.
Because this site is still so new I don’t have very many blogs on it yet so I link quite a few of my quotes posters right to my homepage and then they go look and see what my site is all about.
I also started playing and testing out video pins last year on my AMM account and the test was a huge success but I do have to tell you, though I get millions (yes I said millions) of views on some pins, the click thru rate to the blog isn’t as amazeballs as I’d like it to be. But it’s still there.
Go check out the Inspirational Video Quotes board to have a look at what I mean. These literally took me 5 seconds to make in Kizoa. I use the free version of Kizoa and am still able to make great little videos!
Don’t think you can do it? Of course you can. Any blogger can.
Are you a mommy blogger? Make funny mom quotes
Are you a business blogger? Make success quotes
Are you a lifestyle blogger? Make life-ish quotes.
The possibilities are endless! Use your imagination. You want to increase website traffic fast right? Step out of your comfort zone and out of the box!
That’s where your success lies.
Another tip to increase website traffic fast is this…
Work on your blog and dedicate your time to it like your life depends on it. Are you trying to make this your business? Is this your business?
If you answered yes to both of those questions then act like it is your business. Be a professional. That’s what you are.
It’s so easy for the stay at home online blogger to slack off and get shiny object syndrome while working from home. Trust me, I get it. But you must think and act like you are at work, you are a professional and you are a success.
Are you doing what you love to do or are you only doing this because you have heard so many “I’m a 6 figure blogger” stories and you want to be just like them.
Be just like you, not them. Don’t get into this for the money. Get into this because you have a passion, gift and desire to help people around the world with something.
Sorry. Phew. I think I went off on a little tangent there. BUT….
It’s so important to do this for the right reasons, not the wrong ones. If you aren’t doing it because you love it, you won’t succeed. You’ll end up quitting 6 months (or even sooner) in. Trust me on that.
Once you get traffic to your website for free, here’s the next thing you do
Whether it be through affiliate marketing, ads, or maybe even your own products, it’s time to start earning what you’re worth. Now I know I just said don’t do it for the money BUT we are doing this to make money. It’s our business!
Just make sure money isn’t your focus. Does that make sense?
Though I really suck at affiliate marketing (at the moment) there are a ton of great resources out there to help you with this. I adore Tracie Fobes and every time she puts out a course I usually buy it. They are all very affordable and she’s da bomb!!
You can learn more about affiliate marketing in this great course:
If it’s ad earnings you are looking for, that’s cool too. I started with Google Adsense and then when I hit the right amount of traffic I switched over to Ezoic.
Now I have to tell you, at some point, I also checked out MediaVine for a few months but they failed to deliver. My earnings dropped by almost half when I left Ezoic for them. I went back to Ezoic and have never been happier.
Sometimes you have to test ad agencies too! Not all is what it seems to be (or something like that).
If it’s creating products you’re interested in, good job!! The sky is the limit here! I’m working on some product ideas for AMM at the moment but you can make printable checklists, pdfs, guides, mini eBooks. Oooph. You name it, you can make it and sell it.
I use Picmonkey for absolutely everything right now. I love it and creating stuff there is super easy!
So you see, the first thing you focus on is to increase website traffic fast, and then you can work towards monetizing it. Fun stuff right!!?
Yes, you can increase website traffic fast and free…but
The results will depend on you and how bad you want it. It’s up to you to put in the work and do your part. Blogging isn’t a set it and forget it type of business. No sirree. It takes an awful lot of work, determination, tons of coffee drinking, and many late nights.
But it’s all worth it.
The blogging world is one of freedom and unlimited potential. Remember why you started in the first place and don’t ever give up. Focus on your gift, your passion, and what you are sharing with the world. Focus on how you can help serve others.
The rest will all fall into place. Trust me on that.
