If you are worried about aging and self-care, here are some great, easy non-surgical tips that will not only help you look younger but feel younger as well.

We all want to look younger, yet we don’t have a lot of time to spend on skin routines. Plus, not all of us have the luxury of spending a lot of money on our skin or beauty products. Luckily, there are many simple, easy, and inexpensive steps we can take to fight the aging process. These include the following steps.

Wear Sunscreen Every Day

Yes, we hear this advice every day. We know that the sun is both our friend and our enemy. It is our friend because we need the Vitamin D it provides. It is our enemy because too much sunshine can cause our skin to burn and become dry. Dry skin becomes dehydrated skin, which can easily lead to wrinkles.

We also know we need to wear sunscreen to block out those harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer. Are you wearing sunscreen every day?

Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses make a great fashion statement. They also help block out even more UV rays that can help lead to fine lines around our eyes. Finally, they block out sun glare, which causes us to squint, resulting in even more lines forming. For these reasons, pick out one or two great pairs of shades and start wearing them.

Avoid Drinking Too Much Alcohol Too Often

No, drinking too much does not include drinking the occasional glass of wine. The phrase “drinking too much” means that you drink in excess almost every night. This can make you look older because it can cause your skin to dehydrate. It can also cause your blood vessels to dilate. Over time, it can even cause the skin condition rosacea to develop.

Using Harsh Products Before They Are Needed

Women in their twenties only need to use simple products on their skin. This includes cleansers and basic moisturizers at night. Retinoids should not be used until a woman reaches her thirties or forties unless she has a lot of sun damage. Using harsh products too soon can actually have adverse effects on one’s skin. If a woman is at a loss as to what she should be using, she may want to discuss her skincare options with a dermatologist.

Removing Makeup At Bedtime

All women should remove their makeup before going to bed. This helps their skin to breathe and keeps their pores from becoming clogged. Clogged pores can lead to blackheads and whiteheads.

Stop Smoking

Smoking is not only dangerous to your health, but it can also damage the skin by causing more wrinkles and age marks. Smoking leads to increased production of an enzyme that breaks down collagen, so it reduces your skin’s elasticity and makes it look more aged, sagging, and wrinkled. Smokers have characteristic patterns of wrinkling of the skin, including lines around the mouth and “crow’s feet” around the eyes.

Select the Right Healthy Foods

Tone down your calorie, fat, salt, and sugar consumption. Consume more whole grains, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Other specific anti-aging foods include black and blueberries, garlic, ginger, and nuts like almonds and walnuts. Also, drinking plenty of water is a must. It not only helps get rid of toxins and other waste from your body, but it can also help decrease the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, making you feel and look more youthful.

Exercise More Often

Doing so keeps your body in shape and toned. Most people say that they do not have the time to exercise, but activities such as parking farther away from stores, taking daily strolls around the park, playing with their children or pets, and even going out to see friends and family more often all help keep the body and mind active.

Love Yourself

Appreciate the body that you were born with. Do not dread getting older; instead, look forward to it. A youthful personality with an optimistic outlook on life will make you feel a lot better about yourself, which will also help the body. People who love life are also less likely to become depressed and, therefore, will not overeat or abuse substances.

Take the Necessary Vitamins

Be sure to research and not overdo it. Also, make sure to get enough vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, either from vitamins or from food. If we don’t eat right, our bodies may be lacking in necessary vitamins and minerals.

Avoid Too Much Sun Exposure

Too much sun or spending time in tanning beds, can increase skin aging and your chance of skin cancer. Wear plenty of sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 or more, especially on a hot day. Also, wear protective clothing like long sleeves to help protect the skin.

Use Gentle Moisturizers Daily

It is not necessary to spend hundreds of dollars on anti-aging cream because none have been proven to work. Just using moisturizers alone will help with any dry, cracking skin and keep it looking smooth for a more youthful appearance.

Avoid Negative People

It has been shown that negative attitudes from friends tend to rub off on others if they are often surrounded by them. Avoid people who tend to complain and whine. Also, avoid rude people who try to put you or others down. Develop a bullet-proof attitude about yourself so if someone tries to put you down, you can shrug it off easily.

Update Your Appearance

Keep your wardrobe, makeup, and hair in style. Wear clothes that make you feel good about yourself. Stylish clothes can also make you feel years younger.

As for makeup, remember that “less is more.” As you get older, there is no need to apply heavy foundation or use bright eyeshadow colors. Heavy foundation will only make wrinkles stand out more, so use lighter eyeshadow colors for a more youthful yet mature look.

Do Not Let Your Age Stop You

Unless your doctor advises you not to, do not stop doing something you find fun because of your age. From roller skating to roller coasters, if you enjoy it, then go for it! Remember, it’s only a number and you are as young as you feel and act.
