If you think you’re too old for anything anymore, I’m happy to share with you 17 things that are still possible for you to do, no matter how old you are.
So stop using your age as an excuse.
But before we get started, I need to confess something. Every now and then, I use that excuse. “Nah, what’s the point, I’m already over 60 so that’s not going to happen.” Or this one – “Oh gosh, I’m way too old for that now.”
Do either of those sound familiar, or maybe you have an ‘I’m too old’ excuse/line of your own?
We settle. We get old, and we just settle for the way things are, how life turned out, the way we are now. We just settle and never explore. That’s the biggest mistake you’re making right now – settling.
Now, listen. I do understand that after a certain age, there are limits. Some of us have physical limitations due to aging bodies/health (bad hips, knees, eyesight, etc). You get the idea. But what about the rest of us?? With no physical limitations (or other limitations that exist only in your mind!).
Well, this one is for you. I’m hoping you stop using your age as an excuse and start broadening your horizons!! The world is your oyster (sorry, I stole that line from Scarface).
Without further ado, here are 17 things that are still possible to do, no matter how old you are.
17 things that are still possible no matter how old you are
Some say that 50 is too old to do something new, while others say 60, and some may even say 70 or 80. However if you’re still strong, healthy, and of sound mind, then no age is too old to do anything.
Here, I’ve listed 17 things that are still possible to do at any age, but I’m sure I’ve missed a few. Are you over 60/70/80 and still living life to the fullest, and maybe doing things I missed on this list? Drop ’em down below!
Starting over
Starting over at any age can suck a lot, but starting over in the second chapter of your life seems terrifying and horrible, but trust me, it’s not. I started my life over at 52 (seems to be the magic number for many women), and while it was scary and hard to do, it was NOT impossible.
You can learn more about my life reinvention here.

Learning something new
63 here and still taking Spanish lessons. I’m also taking online courses to help improve and grow my online business.
Learning is not only fun, but it’s crucial to make sure your brain stays active and doesn’t get stagnant, and also prevents the risk of cognitive decline, dementia, memory loss, whatever you want to call it. Learning keeps your brain sharp. Period.
Here are 11 fun brain exercises everyone over 50 should be doing.
Start a new business
Fun fact for you, Colonel Sanders was 65 when his little chicken restaurant turned into a franchise. He never gave up on his dream.
Another fun fact for you, Iva Ursano (that’s me – haha) was 53 when she started working online and later sold one of her websites for high 5 figures. I’m 63 now and still creating new things with my business.
And it’s easier than ever before to start an online business, too!
Get stronger
Yup. It’s not too late to go to the gym or start working out at home to get your body in shape or even get stronger than you are!. We lose strength gradually after 50, so it’s important to keep moving and working your muscles.
Don’t want to go to the gym? That’s cool. Workout at home! Hell, you can even work out with just your bodyweight, no fancy or expensive equipment required.
Just start moving!!
Get healthier
And while we’re on the topic of health, why not change up your daily diet or start eating healthier, if you don’t already? Get rid of sugar, easy on the processed garbage, and start eating more brain foods.
Remember, you are what you eat, so if you’re eating garbage, well. I say no more. I just started another 30-day no sugar challenge (at 63) because I need to take control of my health. You can join here if you’re interested!
And once you start eating healthier and maybe even working out, chances are, your doctor will take you off some of the meds you’re on! How wonderful is that!?
Building confidence
63. I was 63 when I finally stood tall and realized I had built self-confidence. 63. It’s definitely not too late to work on building self-confidence, boosting your self-esteem, loving yourself more and finding your worth and value!!
I let people walk all over me my entire life. People took advantage of me, were mean to me, abused me, etc, and I let them. Not anymore.
I finally have self-confidence, and no one will ever get away with bullying or disrespecting me, ever again.
Travel!
Many of my friends are in their 70s, and even one woman in her 80s, and they are still travelling – some even solo. Your travelling days don’t have to be over!
If you don’t want to travel solo but still have places on your bucket list to see, why not find a travelling group and join them so you’re not alone!!
Life’s too short to live with regret, so go explore the world while you still can.
Bring a dream to life
I’m still working on this one. Remember, I’m 63.
My big dream right now is to build a dog sanctuary here in Guatemala, as there is no safe place for injured or sick street dogs to rest and recover. I’m literally starting at 0 with this one, but I’m not giving up.
What’s your big dream? You don’t have to answer that out loud, but what is it that you’ve always wanted to do/build/see/etc and haven’t yet? Get it off the back burner and breathe some life into it.
Forgive and forget
Ok, so maybe not the forget part. We never really forget the pain that many people from our pasts caused us, but you can forgive and move on, no? I mean, aren’t you kinda old to be holding a grudge?
Life goes on, people do shitty things to us, people die, life is short.
When you hold onto grudges (anger), you’re only hurting yourself. The person you are mad at doesn’t care anymore and has probably moved on with his/her life. It’s time for you to move on, too.
Falling in love again
I mean, if you are looking for love or don’t want to be alone in your golden years. I hear many stories from women over 60, even 70, who have just found their new true love, got married and are super happy.
You’re not too old to date if you want to find love. It’s not gonna just show up on your doorstep unannounced. You might have to put in a little effort, but the point is, it’s not too late, and you’re not too old.
Go get ’em, tiger.
Write a book
I have one sitting in drafts in Google Docs. I hope to finish it soon. Maybe even this year. What about you? Have you started writing that book that you’ve always wanted to?
Don’t you dare say it’s too late now. Or tell that to Bertha Wood, who published her first book at the age of 100.
Sit in front of your computer and get writing. Call one of your grandchildren or friends to help you get started. Google how to start writing a book. Just start!
Move abroad
Or maybe even just packing up your stuff and leaving your city or country and moving to the next one. You’re not too old to do that. I packed up and moved to Guatemala from Canada 10 years ago, and I’ve never looked back.
You can learn more about that here.
If you have the balls and the money, do a little research, join some expat Facebook groups, book your ticket and go. I’ve never been happier in my entire life. You deserve that happiness too!
Geek out with tech
Did you know that many seniors have no idea how to use a computer or even simple commands on their cell phones? And many don’t know what ChatGPT is, or how to use it.
Times are changing fast, and it’s important to stay on top of those changes so you don’t miss out on fun things and so that you understand what is happening around you.
There are many super affordable classes online, or you can ask a neighbourhood teenager (maybe even your grandchildren) to help you learn some basic computer/online skills.
Setting boundaries without guilt
People pleasers, gather here, right now. It’s not too late to start saying NO to all those people who constantly take advantage of you and start saying YES to you!!
When we keep giving without boundaries, people keep taking. And then you’re empty, and you have nothing left for the most important person on the planet – YOU!!!
Learn to say no, set boundaries, and respect yourself and your time more. You are worth it.
Public speaking
If it’s always been a dream, or even a fear you’ve always wanted to conquer, now’s the time! I love speaking in public, but I didn’t always.
When I lived in Canada, I joined Toastmasters and had a ball, not to mention I also met some really amazing and fun people.
Find a group in your area, sign up and go tell your stories!
Declutter/death cleaning
I know, sounds boring, but trust me when I tell you that when you get rid of all your junk, you will feel so much lighter and freer. It’s weird how that works.
And death cleaning is something everyone should do before they die. Why? So that the loved ones you leave behind aren’t stuck figuring out what the heck to do with all your shit.
It’s common courtesy, if you will..haha! Call a friend or family member over to help you if it seems too overwhelming.
Walk away from something/someone that no longer serves you
I saved the best and the hardest for last. Walk away from anything that no longer serves you meaning, it’s making you sad, not bringing joy to your life, it’s toxic, it’s abusive, etc. And this could be a relationship, your marriage even.
But if it’s doing more harm than good, it’s time to leave.
Another fun fact for you. My nonna left my nonno when she was 81 years old. True story. And she died much happier.
You deserve happiness and to live out your days in joy, peace and contentment.
While you’re here…
While you’re here, on this earth, still living, breathing, loving, exploring, don’t forget to stop using your age as an excuse and live with joy and wonder!! Go do things, see things, meet new people, try new food, start an online business, get married…
The only limits you have are the ones you’ve placed on yourself. Lift the limits, go live your life.
