how to tighten skin woman pulling her skin backPin

Before we get into how to tighten skin, I want to share something a little personal with you.

Aging is wonderful and sad at the same time

I can’t believe I’m already 62. This crept up fast. When I hit 60, I was pretty depressed, I’m not gonna lie. I hated everything about aging and being ‘old’.

I hated that my skin was sagging; I hated that I had lost my youthful appearance. I hated getting older. Until one day I didn’t.

One day, I looked in the mirror and said to myself, “Self, you’re amazing, smart, wonderful and perfect just the way you are, wrinkles and all”.

But just because I was getting older didn’t mean that I should stop taking care of myself. On the contrary, I went above and beyond to make sure I stayed healthy, felt good and strong and looked healthy.

Stick around to the very end of this article, where I share my skin care routine and what’s been working for me. I’m also going to drop some links to some of my anti-aging skin care routines and recipes, which I think you’re going to love.

This article will contain affiliate links to all the products I use and absolutely love for my skin, and some suggestions for you to help you achieve the results you’re looking for. Affiliate means if you purchase through this link, I get a small commission, at no extra cost to you.

how to tighten skin – 13 tips that work!

From this list, there are literally only 2 or 3 that I don’t do, the rest, yes!! I do, and they work! I’m also taking really good care of myself lately, hitting the gym 5 days a week, doing yoga at home, eating right, etc.

It’s all these things that make a difference, not just anti-aging cream. Remember, you are what you eat, so be mindful of what you’re putting into your body. After 50, it really matters!!

Collagen-Boosting Cream/Supplements

Your skin’s firmness lives and dies by collagen, and after 40, that production plummets like your tolerance for BS. Look for products with retinol, peptides, and vitamin C to boost collagen production.

You can also add collagen powder to your daily diet plan. You might really like this article on collagen powder.

Daily consistency is everything. Don’t expect miracles overnight, but do expect smoother, tighter skin with a few weeks of loyal use.

Bonus: collagen-stimulating creams also help reduce fine lines. Check out this one on Amazon

Facial Massage

This one’s free, and your face will thank you. Regular facial massage improves circulation, encourages lymphatic drainage, and tones the underlying muscles — all of which help fight sagging.

There are a ton of facial massaging videos on YouTube, IG, TT and other social media platforms. Do yourself a favour, go check them out and get started!

Use your hands or a tool like a gua sha or jade roller (I use a Jade roller), always moving upward and outward. Do it while watching Netflix or waiting for your serum to absorb. Just five minutes a day makes a difference.

You can check out this Jade Roller/Gua Sha kit here on Amazon.

Radiofrequency (RF) Skin Tightening

RF is the queen of non-invasive skin tightening treatments. It uses heat to stimulate collagen production deep under the skin, giving you that lifted, firmer look without downtime.

It’s painless, safe for most skin types, and can be done at a clinic or with a home device. You’ll need multiple sessions, but the long-term payoff is real.

For more information on RF, check out this article from the Cleveland Clinic, and then you can decide if it’s right for you.

Firming Masks

Firming masks with ingredients like clay, collagen, and hyaluronic acid can visibly tighten and hydrate the skin. Weekly use can improve elasticity over time.

You can also make your own anti-aging mask with all-natural ingredients like egg white, honey, and aloe vera, just to name a few.

While these masks aren’t miracle workers, you will definitely notice a difference in your skin. You can check out this mask on Amazon.

LED Light Therapy

I love, love, LOVE my LED light therapy mask and use it every damn day! Red light therapy isn’t just trendy — it works. It stimulates collagen and elastin, which helps your skin look tighter, brighter, and more alive.

It also helps fade age spots and brightens up the tone of your skin. It reduces pores as well. Gosh, it does SO much!

It’s totally worth the investment if you’re consistent. Just 10–15 minutes a few times a week can visibly improve skin tone and firmness.

You can check out this LED light therapy mask (the one I use and love!) or you can check out some over on Amazon.

Stay Hydrated

Boring but essential: dehydrated skin = saggy, tired-looking skin. Hydration helps plump up your cells, giving your face a smoother, firmer appearance. Drink your damn water.

Yes, I know water is boring and icky. Add a squeeze of lemon/lime or cucumber slices, or mint leaves!

And don’t skip moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin — they hold water in your skin like a sponge.

Microcurrent Treatments

These little zaps are like Pilates for your face. Microcurrent devices use gentle electrical pulses to stimulate facial muscles and boost ATP production, which helps tighten and lift.

I’ve never tried (or even seen) one of these, but apparently they are pretty popular and they work! And the best part is you can do this yourself at home.

You’ll feel a subtle tingle, but it’s totally painless — and kind of addicting. Regular use can sculpt your cheekbones, lift your brows, and define your jawline.

You can check out this one over on Amazon. It has the highest rating.

Avoid Sugar and Alcohol/Smoking

Like the plague!!!! Yep, we’re going there. Sugar and alcohol break down collagen and elastin — the very things keeping your skin from sagging!

I recently quit sugar and smoking (February 24) and can’t believe the difference in my skin, my health and everything! You can read about it here or watch the video over on my YouTube channel about it here.

Cutting back (or at least not overdoing it) can slow down skin aging in a big way. Think of it as beauty insurance. You don’t have to go monk-level, just stay mindful.

High-Protein Diet

Protein isn’t just for gym rats — it’s crucial for skin repair and firmness. Collagen is made of amino acids, and you only get those through protein-rich foods.

Think lean meats, eggs, fish, legumes, and collagen supplements if you’re into that. A strong body starts with strong skin. Eat for glow, not just gains.

A woman should aim for .50 – .75 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight.

Cold Therapy

Cold exposure (think ice rollers, cryo globes, or even cold water splashes) tightens pores, reduces puffiness, and gives your skin an immediate firming effect. It’s temporary, sure — but it feels amazing and adds that fresh glow.

Plus, it boosts circulation. Hey, look, I know it doesn’t sound very fun at all but it does feel good, a little shocking at first, but eventually, you get used to it. I do this every morning as part of my skincare routine.

Hyaluronic Acid

Want plump, dewy, tighter-looking skin? Hyaluronic acid is your best friend. It holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, giving your skin instant volume and bounce.

Use it on damp skin and lock it in with a good moisturizer — or you’ll end up drier than before. This is one ingredient that makes a visible difference almost instantly.

You can check out this one here on Amazon. (Cerave is always top-rated for all skin care products)

Exfoliate (But Not Too Much)

Dead skin cells = dull, sagging skin. Gentle exfoliation (2–3 times a week) with chemical exfoliants like AHAs or BHAs helps reveal fresher, tighter skin underneath.

But don’t go scrub-happy — over-exfoliating can wreck your skin barrier and make things worse. Balance is key. Think of it as polishing, not sanding.

You can exfoliate very gently at home with oatmeal, sugar, baking soda or coffee grounds. They all work wonders, and they all have amazing anti-aging properties!

Posture & Facial Exercises

Sagging isn’t just about skin — your muscles matter too. Poor posture and weak facial muscles can contribute to jowls, double chins, and droopy cheeks.

We have approximately 43 facial muscles that need some love and exercise too! Not just from smiling and laughing.

Simple posture fixes and facial exercises (like resistance training for your face) can create subtle but real tightening over time. Look up “face yoga” on YouTube or just practice holding a confident, lifted head.

It adds up.
