I don’t know if you have a bucket list. I have a loose one. There are many things I still would like to see and do before I die. Whether I’ll get to any of them is another story—a few of these on the list I’ve already checked off.
Here are my bucket list items of things to see and do before you die. There are probably a million more things but I think this list has the most spectacular and fulfilling ones.
What things are on your list that I might have missed? I’d love to know.
10 bucket list items to add to your list
I wanted to keep this list of things to do before you die relatively short and mostly name the top 10 things that most people put on their list.
There are also these really popular things most people want to do before they die:
- skydive
- bungee jump
- get a tattoo
- go on a cruise
- travel around the world
Those ones make a lot of bucket lists. I have no desire to go on a cruise, bungee jump, or go skydiving. That’s a big hell no from me. Hahah!
Here are the more tamer things to do before you die that you just might be fortunate enough to check off your list. Can you guess which ones I’ve done?
Explore the Wonders of the World
There are 7 wonders of the ancient world and 7 of the new world. Here are the ones from the new world. Which ones do you want to go see?
- Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico
- The Colosseum, Rome, Italy
- Christ the Redeemer Statue, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- The Great Wall, China
- Machu Picchu, Peru
- Taj Mahal, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India
- Petra, Ma’an, Jordan
Pick one, pack your bags, and go!
go on an African Safari Adventure
This is definitely on my bucket list. I’m not sure I’ll ever make it but I do have high hopes. I think it would be beyond mind-blowing to see all the majestic animals of the wild in real life.
Cruising through the desert on a dune buggy and watching giraffes walk by? Yes, please. Elephants, tigers, zebras? What a thrill that would be.
Take a Spiritual Journey
Immerse yourself in a full-on spiritual journey in places worldwide, such as Bali in Indonesia, Varanasi in India, Jerusalem in Israel, or Kyoto in Japan.
Soak in local customs, sacred rituals, and ancient temples to understand different religious beliefs and practices while opening your heart, mind, body, and soul. Ohmmmmmm
Trek to an Enchanting Destination
Go on a challenging trek to a destination that takes you through breathtaking landscapes.
Whether it’s hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, trekking around Mount Kilimanjaro, or discovering the natural beauty of Mount Fuji, the physical and mental accomplishment will leave you with a sense of achievement.
Cruise Through Magnificent Fjords
Oh, put this on my list, please!! I would love to go to Norway or Iceland or even Alaska just to see some glaciers. Can you imagine how breathtaking it would be to see one up close?
You could book a cruise to see any of these spectacles.
Attend a Vibrant Festival
Participate in lively cultural festivals like Rio Carnival in Brazil, Diwali in India, or the Chinese New Year celebrations.
These vibrant festivals offer a glimpse into the local culture and traditions, all the while giving you a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Travel Solo to a Foreign Land
Step out of your comfort zone, book a ticket, pack your bags, and head to a foreign country alone. Solo travel will allow you to meet new people, build self-confidence, and give you a better perspective on life.
There is nothing quite like the freedom of exploring at your own pace and discovering your strengths (and weaknesses) along the way.
Discover Ancient Civilizations
Explore the remains of ancient civilizations in places like Greece, Egypt, or Rome.
Standing amid ancient ruins gives a sense of awe and wonder as you try to go back in time to feel what life was like then. I did this in Machu Picchu, and it’s quite a feeling.
Experience the Northern Lights
Witness the mesmerizing dance of the Northern Lights in countries like Iceland, Norway, and Canada. You will never see anything else like it in your entire life.
The sky dances before your eyes with colours so vibrant and alive you didn’t even know they existed. The Northern Lights are absolutely stunning.
Volunteer for a Social Cause Abroad
Have you ever wanted to go on a volunteer mission trip? I did, and it changed my life.
Volunteering abroad gives you a glimpse into another culture, how people live, the struggles they have, and so much more. Doing this will open your heart and mind and is so fulfilling. Trust me on that.
