Once I hit 60, I started talking more about aging healthily than other stuff. It matters to me and it’s important. I’m realizing that so many women over 60 have so many health issues that can be avoided with proper diet and exercise.

Not only that, they are wasting so much of their money on anti-aging creams that do nothing!

I want to discuss this a bit today and help you see that you can achieve the same or better results with ingredients from your kitchen that cost a fraction of the price.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought a store-bought anti-aging cream or serum. It makes no sense to me (pardon the pun) to waste my hard-earned money on these things.

No wait, that’s a bit of a lie. I did buy Vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid and retinol only because I haven’t yet figured out how to make it myself.

But first let’s talk about all those anti-aging creams and all the sh*t that’s in them, shall we?

Anti-aging creams: A Chemical Concoction?

It’s easy to get swept up in the marketing hype, isn’t it? I mean, every beauty aisle is overflowing with bottles and jars, each promising revolutionary results.

“Fountain of Youth” “Youth in a Bottle!” “Look 20 years younger now.”

They sound so tempting, especially when you look in the mirror and see new lines forming. I feel ya. And for those of you who aren’t into sticking needles in your faces (no judging, girl, some of us just can’t afford it, nor do we want to go that route), these anti-aging creams are all we have.

But have you ever tried to read and pronounce some of the ingredients in these creams?

It’s crazy. I’ve lately become one of those people who follow this rule: “if I can’t pronounce it, I’m not eating it, and it’s not going on my body.”

They’re not just big words; they’re substances that are less than ideal for our skin in the long run.

Think about this for a minute: many of these chemicals are designed to preserve the product’s shelf life, create a certain texture, or give it a particular scent. They’re not necessarily there to nourish your skin or treat your fine lines and wrinkles.

Read that again.

These anti-aging creams are TOO much!

They promise the world: smoother skin, fewer wrinkles, smaller pores, eternal youth, but what they usually deliver is anything but, and a very empty wallet.

And here’s the thing: your skin doesn’t need that much help from the outside. It just needs a few simple things, all natural things.

A lot of these anti-aging creams are formulated to perform dramatic feats.

They want to peel, resurface, stimulate, tighten, plump, all at once. Seriously?

That might sound great in theory, but in real life, it’s too much. Your skin’s like, “Are you serious right now?”

Especially for our aging skin that’s already doing its best to adapt to all the crazy changes that come with aging: hormones freaking out, collagen dropping, moisture levels tanking. Dis tew much!!

At a certain point, we have to stop falling for shiny promises and start listening to what our skin actually needs: moisture, calm, balance, and time to breathe.

My All-Natural Approach to skincare

So, what’s a woman to do if she wants to age ‘gracefully’ but still care for her aging skin?

My answer is simple: go natural. It’s not about being a purist or a hippie (though if that’s your vibe, rock on!), it’s about being mindful of the stuff you put in your body and on your skin.

My routine is ridiculously simple, and honestly, my skin has never been happier. It’s about nourishment and protection without going broke.

Morning Routine:

  • Gentle Cleanse: I start by gently wiping my morning skin with a 100% all-natural baby wipe and then applying a mask to it, which helps cleanse and moisturize. I’ll drop the ingredients in the mask below.
  • Hydrate & Protect: After I gently rinse off the mask, I apply my Vitamin C serum and a spritz of aloe vera gel I made myself (half cup distilled water, 1-2 tbsp pure aloe vera gel)
  • Sun Protection (Non-Negotiable!): This is probably the most important anti-aging step, bar none. Here is a great all-natural recipe for sunscreen from Healthline.

Mask ingredients: All-natural Greek Yogurt, Oatmeal, Mashed Papaya and a few drops of Carrot Seed Oil

Evening Routine:

  • Oil Cleanse: At the end of the day, I use the oil cleansing method. I massage a generous amount of Rosehip oil (you use whatever oil is best for your skin type) mixed with Carrot Seed Oil into my skin for a few minutes. This dissolves makeup, dirt, and impurities without stripping my skin’s natural oils. Then, I take a warm, damp cloth and gently wipe it all away. It’s incredibly effective and leaves my skin feeling soft, not tight.
  • Nourish & Repair: After cleansing, I’ll use my Red Light Therapy Mask (it was gifted to me, so why not!?) While this is on, I usually listen to bedtime meditations, evening prayers, etc. When I’m done with that, I’ll apply a light layer of Rosehip Oil and a couple of drops of Carrot Seed Oil for the night.
  • Targeted Treatments (Optional & Natural!): Once or twice a week, I’ll do a deep cleaning, usually in the evening, to exfoliate dead cells. Coconut oil and baking soda are all I use for that. I gently massage that into my skin for 30-60 seconds and then rinse off with warm water and finish up with a splash of cool water.

Plain and simple. I’m not going to say I look like I’m 25, BUT I will say that I’m happy with my skin considering I was a smoker for 50 years (I quit in February 2025) and I worshipped the sun for years without sunscreen.

It’s about healthy living too!

Aging isn’t just about applying anti-aging creams to your face and calling it a day.

It’s about eating right, staying active and fit, exercising your brain, staying social, and so much more. It’s not just about what’s on the outside – how you look. It’s also about what’s going on inside and how you are taking care of yourself, body, mind and soul.

You know that whole ‘you are what you eat’, well, it’s true.

Eating healthy and staying active are also two key ingredients to having youthful-looking skin. It’s not all just about those anti-aging creams and miracle serums. That’s only surface stuff.

You need to take care of the whole package as if you’re a big deal, because you are!
