If you are over 50 and want to look 10 years younger, you’ve probably considered many options. It seems as if everyone these days is looking for the “secret to youthful skin,” and many are even willing to undergo somewhat extreme medical treatments to find it.

Forget Botox and surgery. There are “kinder, gentler” ways to look and feel younger than you are. While I’m not on a mission to be 25 again, I do try my best to take care of my skin.

I smoked for 50 years and just quit that stinking habit this year.

Anyway, those are just a few of the things I do to take care of my aging skin and prevent wrinkles, or at the very least, keep them at bay. Now, I want to share 13 ways to look 10 years younger without needles!

13 ways to look 10 years younger

Let’s be real – who doesn’t want to look 10 years younger and defy aging? I know I sure want to. Minus the needles and invasive cosmetic surgery, that is.

Here are 13 simple beauty hacks that will help you look 10 years younger, feel more youthful, give you more energy and generally feel really good about yourself.

Get Your Sleep

While this may sound like a no-brainer, many women over 50 have difficulty getting sufficient sleep. Sleep is important not only for our mental health but our physical health as well.

Sleep isn’t a luxury; you need sleep. You need it for your health, but you also need it for your looks. Ignore your sleep requirements, and you’ll start seeing those little lines and puffy eyes.

And you’ll get grumpy.

Watch Your Diet

As you get older, your metabolism begins to slow down, and obesity can become an issue. A poor diet can affect more than just your weight; it can wreak havoc with skin, energy, and general health.

Pay close attention to how much you eat and what you eat to keep your skin glowing and your body healthy. Remember, you are what you eat. So if you want to look 10 years younger, be mindful of what you put in your mouth!

Get Your Exercise

We all know that exercise has incredible benefits for everything: weight, mood, mind, energy level, and skin. But the trick is you actually have to do it.

Find an exercise you enjoy and establish a schedule for doing it on a regular basis. Getting your body moving really is worth the effort, and, as a benefit, it gets easier with practice.

Avoid Clown MakeUp

Yes, that is a slight exaggeration, but the point is that the temptation to “enhance” your looks can sometimes have adverse effects. Not only is there so much that makeup can cover up, but using too much of it will make you look older.

Use makeup sparingly to enhance your looks; if you have any questions about how to do this, consult a professional.

While makeup can sometimes make us look younger, it can also sometimes make us look much older.

Select The Right Hairstyle

Commit this to memory: Hairstyles change. Many people (men and women) get attached to a hairstyle that they had earlier in life (like in the 70s). They become comfortable with it, but without realizing it, they’ve dated themselves.

You might consider getting style tips from a professional hairstylist. It might be time to get rid of that 80s do! Unless you don’t really care if your hairstyle makes you look younger or older. Then you do you, boo!

Please don’t wear that!

Yes, I’m going there and I know a lot of women will say, “I’ll wear what I want, dammit!”. Ok, well, you can, but just be mindful that some of those outfits you’re wearing are not flattering at all and make you look 10 years older, not 10 years younger.

Trust me on that. You can look sexy and classy AND youthful without trying to squeeze into the clothes you wore when you were 18. I promise.

Bad Habits

If you’ve acquired a few bad habits throughout your life, you might want to take inventory and do something about them.

Do you smoke? Do you drink too much? Habits like these are bad for your looks as well as for your health. Stop them, and if you need help doing that, get it.

I recently just gave up smoking, again, for the millionth time. I can see how it’s really starting to affect my health and my skin.

Load Up On Antioxidant Foods

Antioxidants, powerful disease and age-fighting minerals, are found in the healthiest foods: fruits, vegetables, fish, and certain whole grain products.

A diet rich in antioxidants promotes a younger, more youthful appearance. Load up on these types of foods to give your body the nutrition that it needs to look younger and age gracefully.

Limit Your Sun Exposure

Excessive sun exposure leads to premature aging of the skin, sun spots, skin dryness, and, in more severe cases, skin cancer.

Honest to God, if you want to look 10 years younger protect your skin from the sun every damn day!!

To maintain a more youthful appearance, limit your activities in direct sunlight; wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA/UVB Protection) with at least an SPF of 25 when outdoors for prolonged periods.

How you cleanse and care for your skin also plays a huge role in how quickly you age or get wrinkles. If you wear makeup daily, make sure to wash it off before you go to bed each night. Don’t forget!

Twice weekly gentle exfoliation is also really beneficial in helping you look 10 years younger. A mild exfoliator like coconut oil and baking soda, applied very gently, twice a week, will remove dead cells and promote fresh, healthy, new and younger cells!

That’s what I’m talking about. I use oatmeal and yogurt as a facial exfoliator. It’s great!

De-Stress Yourself

Stress is toxic to your health, making you age faster and look older.

To reduce stress in your life, work towards setting aside quiet time for yourself as often as possible and allow your mind to wander. Combine this with deep breathing and mind visualization.

Focus on tensing and then relaxing different parts of your body. Meditation and even Yoga can offer huge de-stressing benefits as well. Lower stress levels are conducive to a younger, more youthful appearance!

Red light therapy mask

Now, I know I said all-natural, and while this is a tool, it’s still fairly natural and totally painless. Added bonus – IT WORKS!

I’ve had my LED therapy mask now for about one year, and while I’m not very consistent in using it, when I am, I notice a vast improvement in my wrinkles and age spots. Plus, it just feels therapeutic to lay back with this on my face and shut out the world.
