Many women over 60 who are retired and alone find themselves bored an awful lot, with very few friends and not much to do with their free time. Retirement should be a time for fun, relaxing, enjoying life and doing things you love to do!
Or starting a new hobby! Today, I want to share some of the best hobbies for women over 60 that will fill your time and your heart.
15 fun hobbies for women over 60
Let’s just dive right into the best hobbies for women over 60. This post contains several affiliate links from Amazon. My affiliate disclosure is here.
1 Gardening
If you don’t have a yard, you can garden right inside your apartment or house with this cute little indoor garden center!

2 Jigsaw Puzzles
Can you think of anything more fun to do with an extra hour or two of your time? My son and I just completed a 1000-piece Minion puzzle, and we had so much fun! Check out some fun puzzles on Amazon here.

3 Reading
Sounds simple enough, but when was the last time you read a good book? It’s been ages for me, and I’m thinking it’s time to get a good ole paperback again! Not into paperbacks? Hook up to Kindle or Amazon audiobooks.
4 Journaling/Writing
Journaling is my go-to mind dump and zen place. I do gratitude journaling in the morning, and of course, I write here and over on my Medium account. Writing is not only a great way to pass some time, but it’s also really good for your mental health.
I’ve just added some cool journals over in my Fourthwall store. You can check them out here!

5 Adult Colouring
When was the last time you held pencil crayons and coloured in an actual colouring book? I can’t even remember when that was for me, but I’m thinking I’m ready to do it again! There are so many fun adult colouring books over on Amazon.
You can also download my free Mandala Art Colouring book here!
6 Learn a New Language
Because, por que no? You have a bunch of free time on your hands, and a brain that is craving excitement, so give it something fun to do. Teach it a new language, and the best part? You never know when your newfound words will come in handy!
Duolingo is a great free app to help you get started.
7 Diamond Painting/Art
What girl doesn’t love sparkly, glittery stuff?? Have you heard of diamond art? This is new to me, but my 66-year-old sister has some and loves it. I may have to get some while I’m up in Canada this summer!
Check out some diamond art here on Amazon.

8 Genealogy
I mean, have you ever wondered who your earlier peeps were? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been contacted by people on Facebook saying, “Hey, was your grandmother’s name xxxx?” And suddenly you have a new family member!
Side note~if you find new family members and you’re rich, don’t tell them! :p
9 Knitting/Crocheting
Ready to finally learn how to knit or crochet? It’s never too late to learn a new skill, by the way. Go get yourself some needles and check out some free videos on YouTube! There are tons, trust me!
Then you can start knitting socks and scarves for Christmas presents! Fun!
10 Baking or Cooking
I’ll be honest, I really suck in the kitchen. I make very basic meals, and baking was never my thing, but recently I started baking keto treats, and now I’m on a roll! For me, learning to bake new things was rewarding and boosted my self-confidence too!
A great idea is to have a fun little potluck dinner party at your place and do a recipe exchange!
11 Candle-Making
I actually almost took a course here in my tiny town in Guatemala to learn how to do this, but the timing wasn’t right for me. Instead of wasting money on store-bought candles, make your own, and can we talk about how these are always great gift ideas too!
Here’s a great candle-making kit on Amazon you might want to check out.

12 Flower Arranging
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to learn how to do really stunning floral arrangements but never took the time to learn. I kick myself in the butt for this now. There’s nothing like picking some fresh wildflowers from the fields and making your own tabletop stunning arrangement.
And yup, you guessed it, YouTube has videos on that too!
13 Learn to Sew
I bought a sewing machine quite a few years ago, and I mostly use it to hem and shorten clothing, but I’d really love to learn how to make a dress or jumpsuit! One day I will.
Remember, it’s never too late to learn! Find a sewing machine (secondhand or even new at Walmart are still really affordable) and start whipping up your own wardrobe!
14 Photography
Got an eye for the wonderful, weird and wonderous? Grab your camera or cell phone, yes, I said cell phone, and get out there and take some of those stunning shots you’ve always wanted to. You can print them and frame them or even sell them!
Here’s a fun tip for you. If you go to Pixabay.com and sign up for free, you can upload your beautiful photos there and even make money off them. Click here to find out. (Totally free!!!)
15 Dancing/Tai Chi/Qi Gong/Yoga
I grouped these all together because they all include movement, are good for your mental health and are a perfect way to stay strong physically too.
When was the last time you put on your favourite 80s dance mix and jammed out? I really need to do that soon. I can’t remember the last time I danced. How sad.
And yes, YouTube for the last three. There are tons of great videos for seniors on Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Yoga. Get moving!
These are my top 15 hobbies for women over 60 that are affordable and fun. You can do them alone or with friends.

My wish is that you don’t sit at home alone and be sad and depressed because you have no friends or family close by. I want you to do things that bring your heart joy and make you smile again.
